Assisting Hands Home Care, LLC

We offer our clients personalized non-medical care, allowing them to remain safely and comfortably at homes.

LogoAssisting Hands® Home Care provides in-home care to a large population including the elderly, disabled, and others in need of assistance with the Activities of Daily Living in the comfort and security of their own home.

Assisting Hands® was founded in 1996 with its flagship locations in Phoenix, AZ and Boise ID and began franchising in 2006. Since inception, the company has grown to include more than 99 franchised territories in 16 states across the US and 1 Canadian province. The vision of excellence and passion for quality in-home care for those in need drives us to serve our clients like none other.

In keeping with the spirit of our commitment to provide only quality in all we do our caregivers are thoroughly trained in the practices of client care, background checked and/or fingerprinted, CPR & First Aid certified, bonded, and insured. Every caregiver is carefully matched with each client to ensure a great fit is made on a personal level. When the perfect fit is made between client and caregiver, Assisting Hands® makes it a policy to keep that relationship consistent and does not rotate different caregivers in out of the home.

As Dan continues, You have correctly identified that there is a lot of competition. And there are a lot of clients Baby Boomers are 70 plus million strong. And the oldest of us is just now turning 75. There is no shortage of clients, it’s 10,000 a day, every single day, every 8.64 seconds.

When I was first getting into franchising, I had the opportunity to meet the founder of this company before it was a franchise. And we talked with her about franchising her business model. And she had a strong emphasis on well trained caregivers. When this model became Assisting Hands, there was an emphasis on a higher level of support. Because if you take great care of the caregivers, the caregivers will take great care of the clients. And really, whether you’re a franchise or not, in this space, you’re only as good as the last caregiver you sent in to take care of someone. This is taking care of mom and dad. We want to make sure that our franchisees all have a heart for the business. None of our franchisees have ever operated an agency. We have people from food, from accounting, from all kinds of walks of life, including even a couple of attorneys all of whom are great caregivers.  One of our biggest differentiators at Assisting Hands is our flexibility for franchisees to build the business the best way they see fit. We’d have a full playbook for them to get up and running with ongoing support. But each franchisee can really customize the services they offer to the local market and even the payor sources that they work with.

Simply put, Assisting Hands® is Quality Home Care You Can Trust!®

Emily (Emmie) Knox, LMSW

Emmie KnoxOwner, Assisting Hands West Austin, Area Representative Austin/San Antonio Emmie Knox is a Licensed Master Social Worker who owns Assisting Hands Home Care and works with older adults and their families to help create a personalized care plan for the older adult to remain at home with assistance from Assisting Hands’ caregivers. Emmie believes all older adults should be as involved as possible in their long-term planning and determining how and where they receive the care they need. Emmie has supported older adults in her former professional roles as a social worker in skilled nursing, hospice care, as well as crisis intervention before opening Assisting Hands Home Care. Emmie holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Master of Science in Social Work from The University of Texas School of Social Work.

As Emmie says, I’m a Licensed Master social worker, I worked in skilled nursing and hospice with the older adult population. And my husband, Louis, and I started looking for opportunities and we pretty quickly narrowed it down to kind of my background in health care and working with older adults.  We decided on assisting hands and opened our West Austin location and that was about seven years ago.

Something very appealing about the business model itself was the scalability, you can scale your business and have more and more clients and caregivers, knowing that I had the whole resource of not only the national team, but all of the franchise owners.  I could learn the best marketing techniques and learn how to grow.  And to be the President and able to be home with my 2 little kids and being present in their lives when I need to be.  Once you have competent people and a solid infrastructure in place, that does enable for a little bit more flexibility and, and free time to be with kids.

She is also an Initial Medical Response instructor for the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy of Illinois, teaching police cadets’ various medical skills, CPR and First Aid. Angela feels her Nursing background will provide her clients an excellent source of knowledge and provide professional assistance in making the life decisions that her clients have to face.

“Angela has recently relocated to Nashville from Illinois. Derek and Angela are proud parents to 3 young daughters that keep their lives very active and filled with love.”

According to Angela: Well, I kind of have a unique case, I’ve been a registered nurse for 23 years. For me to get into franchising, it has to be something that was my passion. I had wanted to get into this business, I always found myself helping my patients off the clock on my personal time, and my husband said, why are you doing this for someone else, we should have our own business. It was really nice to look at the franchising model, because we have all that national support. When you have your own home care agency, you have to worry about all the details.

Things like Errors and Omissions Insurance and more.  There’s no way that I would be as successful as I am if I was doing it privately rather than with a franchise.

What was really nice with Assisting Hands it just was a very natural fit, like I did not feel like I was being sold to, I didn’t feel like I was having to be convinced to buy this company. And I think the thing that was most endearing about assisting hands for me was that they were just so encompassing, and making sure that they were a right fit for me, not necessarily me having to be the right fit for them.
The fit is perfect for me, If I need to go to the national team, I can text any one of them today from my cell phone and say, I need help. And they would respond immediately with what can I do?   We all have this innate culture about us to care for others, right, we always take care of our elderly care for others. And I truly feel that if you show that you are a genuine person you will be successful with all the tools that assisting hands puts in place for you. And I say to new owners, it is truly a family and some of mine and my husband’s dearest friends are other franchise owners that we vacation with and like to go visit.
