rob taylorRob was in corporate America for about 25 years before getting into the franchising space. And the last 16 years of that career was in the veterinary space. It was a natural progression to partner with Raintree, which two of my very close friends founded. But it wasn’t until Hounds Town that it made sense to be part of the pet care industry, I can leverage my knowledge I just saw so much opportunity out of this brand. With the founder’s knowledge of dogs from the NYPD and dogs in the military. Having an extensive knowledge of dog psychology really ended up being one of the biggest differentiators between Hounds Town and competitors. I made the jump and left corporate America. I’m a big believer in franchising. And I love working on the development side with Raintree and especially with brands like Hounds Town.

A lot of times we talk about red flags for people. With Hounds Town, they come in to look at the brand because like, wow, I love dogs. But Melissa Pangthen as they explore it, they dive in deeper after talking to you and they understand the business model, they understand what they’re going to do. And a lot of times it comes down to wanting to be in this community, Am I going to be helping other people, and it’s a good cause. And I love what you said about this client, if he hadn’t gotten laid off, he never would have found this opportunity. And it just checked off so many boxes for him. And I think misconceptions about franchising is it’s that it is only a restaurant concept, or I must have $5 million. No, you don’t, you took time to educate him on his side, he took time to be educated and be open to it. And he had a mindset shift.

Let’s also talk about your impression as a coach about franchising in general and what has been your experience?

Rob Taylor-Raintree brands, including Hounds Town, has a very thorough process. The typical process can be six to eight weeks. Most are really drawn to the founder’s background, working with dogs his entire life and having that canine knowledge that really none of our competitors have. Some people get intimidated about working with dogs, especially large packs hounds town activeof dogs. They may think that they must have prior experience. We prefer the opposite because we can teach you everything you need to know, and you don’t start with any bad habits or preconceived notions about dogs and training and things like that. And we can guide folks and on discovery day, you get to meet the team, tour the facilities, that’s the final test in the process to determine is this going to work out? As for this client, he was just head over heels excited after the day, he was ready to go very quickly, but he still had the checks on his boxes, with, like getting an attorney to review the agreement. It can take some time to organize the funding etc. As a TES coach we are there to guide the client through every step they need, not giving up on the client, and trying to put yourself in their shoes, how they’re viewing things a little bit differently. The coach changes everything. Because a lot of times the client can confide more in the coach, because they’re more of a neutral party. It is not solely about making money. It can be more about doing something they enjoy. Is it often a combination of both! I think from a consultant approach, it’s about finding that perfect match for the individual and just listening to him and catering everything toward that specific individual.
